When you think about Washington State, you probably think about rain. That’s not exactly a thought that makes you want to get outside and see outdoor movies. Seattle

Seattle is a thriving urban area that is known for supporting industry and entrepreneurship of all different types. This creates a creative community which is welcoming to interesting events such as outdoor movies. There is plenty to do in Seattle on any given night but even with competition from other event options in the area, the outdoor movies always see a large crowd. This is not only because the outdoor movies here are so much fun but also because they are a well-established annual Seattle event.

Tacoma often takes a subservient role to Seattle in terms of Washington tourism so it does its best to stand out as a city of its own. This can be seen in the unique approach that Tacoma takes to its outdoor movie events. Before the movie, they host local bands to show their support of outdoor music in addition to outdoor movies. But they also add activities to encourage locals to attend the outdoor movies, activities such as the Tacoma Idol contest and other entertainment. The people in this Washington city don’t need a good reason to get outside for movie nights but Tacoma gives them plenty of reasons anyway.

Spokane

Located in the Eastern part of Washington, Spokane is the second largest city in the state. This makes it a thriving urban area where you might expect to find a liberal attitude. What you probably wouldn’t expect to find is that the most popular outdoor movie events in this city are put on by a church. But if you get to know Spokane a little bit better, you can quickly see that this makes sense. Outdoor movie events bring together the people in a community. A city like Spokane which may be large for its state but which retains some small-town feel appreciates events like outdoor movies precisely because of that community-building quality. So even those families who might not attend the church are happy to bring their kids to the inflatable movie screen erected at a Spokane place of worship.
