This series of outdoor movie events was attended by more than 10, 000 fans of cinema under the stars in its first season, its overwhelming popularity spurring an expansion in its schedule, adding an extra two events per season. During these outdoor cinema events, a great selection of films is shown on giant outdoor movie screens, ranging from film classics dating as far back as the 1950's to today's hit movies. Starting in the first week of July, Summer Screen movies in the park is a regular Tuesday night event for eight consecutive weeks. The entertainment begins with music at 7PM, with movies  beginning at 8PM. All events are open to the public and there is no charge for admission. During the summer months and into September, an eclectic mix of film classics and modern movies are shown on outdoor movie screens, free of charge. Spurred by the overwhelming response to the outdoor cinema events that are presented during the annual May festival, Tribeca has decided to give cinema under the stars its own place on their events schedule. For four nights in June, a 30 ft by 50 ft outdoor movie screen will be set up in front of 30 Rockefeller Plaza for this event, which will feature a variety of independent movies, including some New York premieres. A continuous loop of independent movie shorts will play during the days of this event, between 8:30 AM and midnight on a separate screen set up at the centers observation deck. Of course, presented at the Rockefeller Plaza, these events are not true drive-in movies, but the atmosphere is recreated with a few model cars for select audience member to be seated in to enjoy the show. Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase, and the show will go on, rain or shine, with the drive-in opening at 6PM nightly and movies beginning at 9PM.</p>

Admission to the series of outdoor cinema events is absolutely free, and the movies featured are a variety of popular films that are a few years old, as well as short films from a selection of independent filmmakers. Lawn seating is available in the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park segment of the park. It is advisable to bring a blanket along, as well as food and beverages, but keep in mind that alcohol is not allowed during movies in the park.<br />&nbsp;<br />Each of the outdoor movie events begins at 6:00 PM, with performances by some of the most popular disc jockeys in the city. The music is provided by the local organization known as Brooklyn Radio. As the sun goes down, the visitors will be able to enjoy the featured movies under the stars, with a gorgeous view of the Brooklyn Bridge, the East River, and the New York City skyline in the background. The entrance to the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park is located on Water St., between New Dock St. and Main St. Pedestrians can enter the park from one of the several nearby subway stations. Those arriving by bicycle can find secure parking close by, and those who drive to the event can park either on the street, or in one of five nearby parking garages. Arriving as early as possible is the key to getting the best seating, due to the extreme popularity of these events. After enjoying a leisurely evening on the lawn, the main attraction, the movies in the park will begin, as soon as the sun sets, around 8:00 or 9:00 PM. The films shown vary from year to year, but often include such classics as Psycho, Casablanca, or The Thing from Another World.</p><p>

Those who intend to use the lawn for seating should bring along a comfortable blanket made of fabric, not plastic, plus some food, beverages, and some things to keep busy until the movies in the park begin. Outside of the lawn area, there is also an assortment of regular seating and tables available for the movie patrons. When packing a picnic is not an option, there is an assortment of food and beverages available for purchase nearby. Bryant Park is located in Manhattan, bordered by 40th St., 42nd St., 6th Ave., and 5th Ave.  Secure parking for bicycles is provided, as well as restrooms, and even free Wi-Fi. While the festival offers a variety of submissions from around the world, many of the outdoor movie events feature films that are produced locally, are set locally, or are of local interest. The unique blend of movies includes full-length independent features, short films, documentaries, and animations. Often, some of the movies that are shown during the series will go on to win awards at some of the major film festivals around the world. The Rooftop Film Festival is intended to be a community event, bringing together people from various walks of life to enjoy a night of unique entertainment. Each one of the outdoor cinema events, held three times a week, starts with a performance of local music at 8:30 PM, with the films starting at 9:00 PM.
