NEW YORK CITY: SUMMER OUTDOOR MOVIE EVENTS IN BRYANT PARK

During the summer months of June, July, and August, visitors and residents of New York City have a unique opportunity to view some classic movies under the stars, for free, on Monday nights. The afternoons begin at 5:00 PM, when the lawn is opened for picnicking, and to grab the perfect viewing position. Arriving as early as possible is the key to getting the best seating, due to the extreme popularity of these events. After enjoying a leisurely evening on the lawn, the main attraction, the movies in the park will begin, as soon as the sun sets, around 8:00 or 9:00 PM. The films shown vary from year to year, but often include such classics as Psycho, Casablanca, or The Thing from Another World.

Those who intend to use the lawn for seating should bring along a comfortable blanket made of fabric, not plastic, plus some food, beverages, and some things to keep busy until the movies in the park begin. Outside of the lawn area, there is also an assortment of regular seating and tables available for the movie patrons. When packing a picnic is not an option, there is an assortment of food and beverages available for purchase nearby. Bryant Park is located in Manhattan, bordered by 40th St., 42nd St., 6th Ave., and 5th Ave. Secure parking for bicycles is provided, as well as restrooms, and even free Wi-Fi. Any Monday outdoor cinema events that are canceled by rain will be held on the following Tuesday.
